KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Quarterback Patrick Mahomes will participate in the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Houston Texans on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium despite suffering a high ankle injury last Sunday. Played in the starting lineup.
Mahomes has no injury status for this game.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said earlier Thursday that Mahomes practiced fully on Thursday, the Chiefs’ last session of the week. He also participated fully in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“He looked really good outside,” Reed said. Therefore, you always try to make sure that they are out of the way so as not to cause them further harm. That’s what I see.
“I’ve been through similar things with him before, and he surprises me every time he does it. He’s very mentally tough and he puts that into his mindset and goes into it. We are working on it.” [from] Where was he a few days ago? ”
“Like he always does,” wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said when asked how Mahomes was doing at practice this week.
Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns. He left the game and was replaced by Carson Wentz.
The Chiefs also ruled left tackle DJ Humphries out of Saturday’s game. Humphries missed Week 14’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a hamstring injury and missed practice all week. He did not play in last week’s win over the Cleveland Browns.
The Chiefs used Joe Thuney, normally the starting left guard, at left tackle against the Browns. Before signing Humphries recently, the Chiefs used either Wanya Morris or rookie Kingsley Suamataia at left tackle, with both players sitting on the bench at various times during games.
