KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Running back Clyde Edwards-Haley has been placed on the Kansas City Chiefs’ non-football sick list.

Edwards-Haler will miss the first four games of the season before becoming eligible to return.

Edwards-Haley has spoken at length recently about his struggles with PTSD. He missed several training camp practices and was not on the Chiefs’ practice field Sunday as they began preparations for Thursday night’s season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Last month, Edwards-Helaire revealed the exact date her PTSD symptoms began: Dec. 22, 2018. She didn’t go into details other than to say she and a friend found themselves in a “self-defense situation.” Edwards-Helaire was a student at Louisiana State University at the time.

According to Baton Rouge, Louisiana police, two Louisiana State University football players were trying to sell electronic devices that day when one of them shot and killed an 18-year-old man who was trying to rob them. Police have not released the identities of the players, but the Associated Press reported that Edwards-Haley was one of them.

Edwards-Haley was the Chiefs’ first-round draft pick in 2020 and was the starting running back for his first two seasons with the team. He lost his starting spot to then-rookie Isaiah Pacheco in 2022 and has been a reserve since then.

Besides Pacheco, the Chiefs have two other running backs on their active roster: veteran Samaje Perine, who recently joined the team after being released by the Denver Broncos, and rookie Carson Steele, who joined the team after performing well in training camp and the preseason.
