Cher Explains Why She Refers to Son Chaz Using His Deadname in Book

Cher said that after giving birth to Chaz, Bono devoured her child. “Sonny came the next morning and said we had a baby girl, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces. She was so beautiful,” she wrote. “He didn’t seem to mind that she wasn’t a boy at all. I named her ‘Chastity Son.’ “Chastity” because that was my name in the movie we just made, and “Sun” after her father. ”

Cher has been open about motherhood for years, after Chaz, now 55, first came out as a lesbian and underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2009.
