Thousands of Democrats, including delegates, party members, politicians and celebrities, gathered at the United Center in Chicago this week to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for president and vice president.
Thursday
Ms Harris accepted the party’s nomination and spoke of her middle-class background, calling for unity in “a new way forward”. She was preceded by members of her family, including her sister Maya, her niece Meena and her stepdaughter Ella, who took turns at the podium. There were also several celebrities in the crowd.
Wednesday
The third night of the convention featured speeches from several rising party stars, former President Bill Clinton and a surprise appearance from Oprah Winfrey. After several guests highlighted Waltz’s average personality and background as a football coach, he formally accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota helped introduce Walz before he took the stage, highlighting his Midwestern roots.

Tuesday
Several Democratic governors, including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, the host state of the convention, sat with the delegation during the ceremonial roll call. The evening was accompanied by a playlist of songs and a performance by rapper Lil Jon.
Before the evening concluded with speeches from former first lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama, the second guest, Doug Emhoff, spoke about how Harris had taken on the role of “Mamara” to his children, Cole and Ella.

Monday
The first night of the convention featured a speech by Hillary Clinton and a torch-passing speech by President Biden. “America, I gave you my best,” President Biden said, reciting a line from the song “American National Anthem” by Jean Scheer. Several members of Biden’s family were in the crowd, and audience members held up signs that read “Thank you, Joe.”
