Budget 2025: The government is planning to develop additional infrastructure to five Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and expand the IIT Patna, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Saturday.
Sitharaman has also introduced the “Bharatiyabashamsapshtak” scheme, which aims to present eight consecutive union budgets and provides digital versions of Indian books to schools and higher education.
“The total number of students in 23 IITs has increased by 100% from 65,000 to 1.35 lakh over the past decade. Additional infrastructure has been created in five IITs launched since 2014, and education for 6,500 students. It will also expand the capacity of hostels and other infrastructure IIT Patna.
The announcement to expand IIT Patna is ahead of Bihar Assembly Polls, scheduled for later this year.
FM also announced that over the next five years, 10,000 fellowships will be offered for IIT and IISC technology research.
“Five National Centers for Excellence for Skills with Global Expertise and Partnerships will be established, and 50,000 ATAL Tinkering Labs will be established in public schools over the next five years to develop scientific temperament in young minds. I will,” she said.
Sitharaman said broadband connectivity will be provided to all government secondary schools and primary health care centres in rural areas.
“I announced three centres of excellence in Agriculture, Sustainable Cities and AI for Health in 2023. Currently, the centre of excellence in AI for education is the expenditure of Rs 500. It’s set up,” she said.
