The NFL Draft is just two days away, with former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger dedicated most of his latest episode His Footburlin Podcast Talk about drafts. Roethlisberger has the intangible aspect of valuing players, especially at quarterback, and said that if the Steelers ask him to help, the scouting players want to do.
“As the Steelers asked me, ‘Hey, could you look at this, do you appreciate this? I want to be part of something like that.
Roethlisberger said it is important for players to feel about how they behave on both the bystander and on the field.
“I want to go to the game and see it like a live game. Just look at those players. When he comes out of the field, look at him. Is he sitting on the bench, sitting?
Many former players become scouts, working in the front office, offering a different perspective as someone who was in the locker room and played the game. However, scouting and evaluating players is not an exact science. As Roethlisberger said, there may be something he can see for others. Scouts also look at the player’s body language and how they act on the field. Still, it is correct that Roethlisberger may have a different perspective when looking at certain intangible assets, particularly the quarterback position.
The Steelers have a mix of former players like Zack Crockett, Chidi Iuuma and Mark Bruner with the scouting staff, but there are also many scouts who have never played in the NFL. It doesn’t sound like Roethlisberger is interested in the full-time scouting role, but especially looking at quarterbacks and seeing if players can become male leaders, he seems interested in supporting the team before the draft and doing scouting work where necessary. If the call from the team is a different question so far, it’s interesting to hear Roethlisberger say that it’s something he wants to do.
With the Steelers likely selected quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, Ben Roethlisberger has his eyes on Ohio’s Willud Howard and Ole Miss Jackson Dart, stating the intangible assets of those players and how to guide the team. So he didn’t support the team this year in the pre-draft process, but if that’s the case, he knows where he will tilt when selecting a quarterback.
