‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ wins box office over ‘Transformers: One’ in surprise twist

Say his name three times, because he just won the weekend box office.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” The legendary sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 horror comedy earned $26 million at the box office, according to studio estimates, and topped the box office for three consecutive weeks.

The film, an animated origin story of Optimus Prime featuring the voices of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson, slightly beat the $25 million grossed by the opening weekend’s new release “Transformers: One.”

“Beetlejuice,” a Warner Bros. release starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, opened three weeks ago with $110 million and has since grossed more than $226 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Transformers: One” has received great reviews and even awards buzz, but fans on social media are “confused that the movie is an animated film,” the outlet said, adding that the film’s production company, Paramount, expects it to remain in theaters for the next few weeks.

“Speak No Evil,” a horror film starring James McAvoy, earned $5.9 million in its second weekend, coming in third at the box office and bringing in a cumulative $21.5 million.

Rounding out the top five was Halle Berry Horror film “Never Let Go” came in fourth with $4.5 million, while “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, grossed $3.9 million in its ninth weekend.

What also affected the box office revenue was Demi Moore is in the spotlight Body horror film “The Substance” came in sixth with $3.1 million, but was only shown in limited screens during its opening weekend.
