Bangladesh’s top election body locks National Identity Cards of Sheikh Hasina, her family members

Dhaka: Bangladeshi’s top electoral body has locked the national identity cards (NIDs) of abdicated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her nine families. Reported by Daily Star Newspaper, the NIDs of 10 individuals, including Hasina, were locked through an official letter on February 16th and signed by ASM Humayun Kabir, Director of the National ID Registration Building, of the Election Commission.

Other members whose NID is locked are Hasina’s son Sajeeb wazed, daughter Saima Wazd, sister Sheikh Rehana Siddiq, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, Shaheen Siddiq, Bushra Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Sidiq aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Officials say NID locking means that information cannot be modified, verified or changed. Hasina and her nine family members will not receive NID related services as locked NIDs are not available.

Hasina, 77, has been living in India since August 5th last year. She fled Bangladesh after a massive anti-government protest that overthrew the government in 2016.

The National Central Bureau (NCB) of the Bangladesh Police recently filed a request with Interpol to seek red notices for 12 individuals, including Hasina.

Interpol is used by Interpol to find and temporarily arrest individuals who have suspended extradition or similar legal action. Hasina is accused of numerous charges, including massive murder and crimes against humanity, and forces a loss-disappear while these cases are filed in Bangladesh’s International Crime Court.
