The Air India plane heading for London lost altitude shortly after its withdrawal, crashing into a residential quarter of a doctor at BJ Medical College in Meganinagar area, Ahmedabad on Thursday, causing serious damage to the building on the property, witnesses said.
Several people living in a residential area near Ahmedabad airport were injured in the accident, they allegedly had no official confirmation of this.
The plane flew very low, which hit a residential area of a doctor at a government-run university, an eyewitness told PTI.
“There are several five-storey buildings that serve as residential accommodations. The buildings were also on fire, which injured many people in those apartments,” he said.
Another witness said several cars and vehicles parked on the property also sparked fires.
A few minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport on Thursday afternoon, a London Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed in a residential area. Many people were feared to have been killed.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner Aircraft (AI171) can be seen from afar, rapidly losing altitude, crashing with a ball of fire that swirled into the air with a thick, black smoke plume.
Around 2pm, an aircraft carrying 232 passengers and 10 crew members crashed in the Meganinagar area near Sardarvarabhai Patel International Airport.
