Hello friends! Enjoy your long weekend! I’m posting my Friday favorites on Saturday because it’s been a week. (Actually it’s been weeks!) Pilot finished 3 weeks of night flying so I’ve been single parenting here since my daughters started school. Early last week I noticed Maisie’s mouth felt funny. Maisie was showing her “little teeth” and we had a good laugh but I didn’t think much of it. The next day Maisie couldn’t close her mouth and was having a hard time eating and drinking.
We took her to the vet emergency room, blood work and vital signs were normal, they recommended they check her nose and throat for blockages, so we did, they found nothing and sent us home with a huge bill and no answers.
The next day, her condition had not improved, so we found another vet who could see her (we normally use a mobile vet service, who are great for checkups, but cannot handle emergencies.) The vet was determined to find out what was going on, and brought her back so that all the vets in the practice could examine her and see what was going on.
She has trigeminal neuritis (also called submandibular ptosis), but it is temporary and she is expected to fully recover in about 2 weeks (thank goodness). The cause is unknown; it may be an autoimmune reaction/inflammatory that tends to come on suddenly and then subside. I continue to pray that she will make a full recovery. In the meantime, I am mixing organic beef broth into her dog food, giving her coconut water for electrolytes, and making sure she drinks plenty of fluids.
I had lost sleep several nights worrying about her, my car broke down (it was fixed quickly but it was a pain), school and everything was a mess, I was looking forward to the weekend and time with friends, sleep in and catching up on life.
Have a great weekend and I’d love to hear how things are going.
