The 2023-24 season was a pivotal one for Al Horford’s legacy. Not only did he win his first NBA championship, he also became the first player to do so while being older than the team’s full-time head coach. Additionally, Horford joined an elite group of only six players in NBA history to finish in the top 60 in playoff points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and three-pointers. The other five members are LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durantand Scottie PippenWow, what an amazing company.
While he may not have as many regular season accolades or accomplishments as some of the players higher on this list, his longevity still makes him stand out. Horford played primarily at center and had a long career as a quality starter and low-level All-Star, but center was never his favorite position.
He ranks in the top 70 in both career blocks and rebounds and will likely be considered for the Hall of Fame when his career is over. He’s not a sure thing, but he’s probably a good bet, considering the Basketball Hall of Fame is treated more as a hall of very good players.
