When “The Big Bang Theory” first began in 2007, there were only five main cast members: Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Johnny Garekki as Leonard Hofstatter, Kunalnaier as Rajkhuchorupari, Simon Helberg as Howard Worowitz, and Kaylee Kuoko as Penny. Over time, co-creator Chuck Lorre and his creative team have wisely brought in Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski (which becomes Howard’s love interest) and Maim Biarik as Amy Farrer Farrer Farrer (ultimately Dead Date, Marie Shevin Suzumann Suzumann Suzumann Suzumann Suzumann Suzukowski). (Although Sussman originally focused on Howard’s role). So which was supposed to be a fleeting guest star? That would be Bernadette, the character of Rauch.
Interviewed “Jennifer Hudson Show” In February 2023, Rauch, who appeared on the reboot of NBC’s “Night Court,” told the Oscar winner that she was still amazed by the experience, sharing that she thought it was a short gig. “I still don’t know that I’ve completely handled what the whole experience is,” admitted Rauch. “Just before I was cast as Bernadette, I was literally in an unemployed job the week before that job. I was supposed to be there that week, so they said I was going to do a few more episodes.
Jessica Radoroff’s 2022 book “Big Bang Theory: The Definitive Inner Story of a Magnificent Hit Series” Rauch said about the same thing… and pointed out that a random call to her agent made it all come true. “I still have an audition email I read. ‘Find the material for the above booking surrounded… Bernadette, guest star,'” recalls Rauch. “I auditioned on September 15th, 2009, and before that audition I hadn’t had it for so long, so I called my agency and said, “Sorry, but is there anything you think is right?” I had to work and had to make that call, but my agent said, “It’s very slow.” Needless to say, I was thrilled to have the courage to make the call. ”
How did Melissa Rauch stick as Bernadette in the Big Bang theory?
In Jessica Radoroff’s book, the overwhelming consensus from the creative team behind “The Big Bang Theory” is that they are I’m loved Melissa Rauch was easy to protect her as soon as she auditioned for the series. Executive producer, writer and ultimate showrunner Steve Moraro told Radorov, “Her reading was very different from the others. She was funny and cute, and when she left, we all said, ‘She was amazing. Let’s try using her!” ”
Casting directors Nikki Barco and Ken Miller felt the same way. As Valco said, “Melissa Rauch is equal to comedy gold, and we don’t say it easily.” Valco continues, after seeing a ton of auditions for “The Big Bang Theory,” everyone knew that Rauch was something special. “We see a lot of actors,” continued Valco. “She went into the room, and it was like ‘Amazing’. We had never met her before.
“You just want to hug her all the time because she’s so good,” Miller said before defining the personality traits (and the small height of Rauch) that would later become a definition of Bernadette’s personality. “But that susp coming out of that little tiny person… she was a power. It’s a lot to someone! It’s just a funny sight and it was so funny to see her place the Pitbull next to Warowitz, the Mom’s boy.”
According to Simon Helberg, Bernadette made Howard better with the Big Bang theory
Those who provided some of Melissa Rauch’s most serious admiration in Jessica Radoroff’s book were not surprised here – nothing great could have been said about both Rauch and Bernadette. “Howard was so mean and a Filaland Rotario, I wasn’t sure if it was his fate to continue that sad cycle, so when Melissa came I was like, ‘Oh, this would be really fun.’ She was written differently from the other women who went out and went,” Helberg recalled before he felt a quick connection with Rauch (and the voice of “Bernadette” in her signature, and again joking about her height). “And when I met Melissa, I quickly won totally,” he continued. “Her charm was fascinating, and like her signature voice, which grew more and more as the episode progressed, I don’t think that at first a St. Louis dog was lying on the ground covering her head with her legs, but it was there.
“She’s really kind and the calmest person,” adds Helberg before revealing that she remembers almost everything about the pair’s first episode, “The Creepy Candy Coating Collollary.” “I have very strong memories of her first episode. That scene in the restaurant where the date happened,” continued Helberg. “I remember saying something about emotions and exchanges and looks, and the cross, and the car scene that casts spells for her. It was like the best partner you could have.
“Big Bang Theory,” which includes all of Bernadette’s best moments, is currently streaming on Max.
