All Things Thoughted delves into the latest in President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet appointments.
Scott Detrow, host:
The Trump administration is rapidly taking shape. We’ll keep you up to date with the latest candidates. This afternoon, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Brooke Rollins to be Secretary of Agriculture. Mr. Rollins served as a policy advisor during the first Trump administration, and in recent years has led a think tank closely aligned with Mr. Trump’s policies.
Several other names offer clues about how President Trump will govern. He nominated Russ Vought to head the Office of Management and Budget, a key position that directs federal spending. Vought was the architect of Project 2025, a conservative plan for the second Trump administration that Democrats tried to make a key issue in the campaign and that Trump repeatedly tried to distance himself from. President Trump said in a statement that Vought would “dismantle the deep state” (end quote).
Another notable appointment is Sebastian Gorka, who has been named the new senior director of counterterrorism. Gorka served as a counterterrorism adviser in the Trump administration’s White House in 2017. NPR later reported that Congressional Democrats had claimed that Mr. Gorka had ties to a Hungarian anti-Semitic group, which Mr. Gorka denied.
