We’ll find out in less than a month whether former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
Until then, we can only speculate. But some are confident Manning will be celebrated and welcomed on the other side of this year’s famous knock to Canton.
Former Giants running back and teammate Brandon Jacobs is among those who believe Manning will take the first shot.
“There’s no question,” Jacobs said in response to a question. TMZ Sports.
Jacobs, who like Eli is a two-time Super Bowl champion, didn’t go into great detail about why he thinks Manning should qualify in his first try.
“Well, (expletive),” Jacobs said. “He beat Tom Brady twice. That’s enough!”
“I think Eli is by far the first-ballot Hall of Famer,” Jacobs continued. “He definitely deserves to be inducted this year.”
Manning is one of 15 modern finalists on this year’s new candidate list. Regardless of the initial vote, there has been much debate among pundits and former players as to whether Eli deserves to be in the Hall at all.
Jacobs, like many players in the Giants’ orbit, ignored it. They know how much Eli means to the franchise and his place in NFL history.
Jacobs says the two players who won the Super Bowl MVP over Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are just window dressing.
His numbers are “comparable to almost all of the players we consider great.”
