At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), brands make big announcements about product releases and show off cool concepts and mockups for future projects. So it’s not surprising fine — a maker of third-party gaming and PC accessories — showed off several new devices.

But what caught us off guard was Genki’s purported mockup of a Nintendo Switch 2 console and Joy-Con controllers. How much does this confirm previous leaks? And is there any new information about the upcoming console ahead of Nintendo’s official announcement later this year? As usual, Nintendo’s official channels neither confirm nor deny any of the details provided by Genki and its Switch 2 mockup. However, that doesn’t mean the rumors are still going strong. There are a few things that seem to confirm, if not confirm, previous leaks, including the possibility of magnetic Joy-Con controllers and the console itself being larger than the current Switch OLED.
This is all exciting, but something doesn’t feel right. First, Genki’s mockups are very similar. CAD file exposed as an error The source of these files claimed to have obtained console information “at great expense” from a third-party manufacturer and “reverse engineered” the CAD files.
Nintendo is such a popular product that this is an elaborate move to drum up interest in Genki’s (frankly) mundane accessories (which consist primarily of a USB-C cable and a video). I couldn’t find any details about Human Things Inc. other than it being suspiciously empty. LinkedIn page It comes with a URL that takes you directly back to Genki’s retail page. their blog It’s terribly sparse, with only 4 posts. The first is from 2019, the first from 2023, and the second from 2024. There’s no mention of the company’s operations, but the site’s home page proudly notes that it was successfully backed by over 50,000 people on Kickstarter.
Taking all of this into consideration, the alleged Switch 2 leak feels like a poorly planned viral marketing effort. And Genki isn’t the first vendor to take this approach. In December 2024, Canadian company Dbrand claimed to have obtained an official 3D scan of the Nintendo Switch 2 from an unspecified source in order to promote the Killswitch 2 case.
Ultimately, this alleged leak does not add any significant new information or confirm anything we haven’t heard before. Nintendo plans to officially announce the release date, retail price, and technical specifications of Nintendo Switch 2 by April 2024.
