Naomi Judd and Larry Strickland They were married for over 30 years and weathered many storms through their relationship.
A new lifelong docusary Judd Family: The truth is toldStrickland was opened about his marriage to Judd, who died of suicide at the age of 76 in April 2022. “I mean, it was almost love at first sight and it was love,” Strickland recalled in Episode 2 of the series, which premiered on Saturday, May 10th.
Judd and Strickland tied the knot in 1989, but their romance wasn’t necessarily sunlight and roses. When she spoke in her memoir she received a call from a woman who once said she had missed Strickland. In response, Judd cut out all the photos of Strickland and threw his belongings into the garden with a garbage bag.
“Yeah, it was hell. I heard everything,” Naomi’s daughter said. Ashley Judd Recalled with Docuseries. “I heard mommy’s phone call on the road. I heard them fight, I heard them not fight, I heard them all.”
In 1995, Naomi made a TV film about her life Naomi and Winona: Love can build a bridgewhich included a scene in which Naomi shot Strickland after accusing her of affair.
“Well, it really happened, that’s everything I can say,” Strickland said in episode 2 after seeing the clip. “That’s all I want to say. It happened.”
Despite their ups and downs, Strickland and Naomi remained together until her death. Her suicide came as a shock to fans, but Strickland said she was struggling behind the scenes near the end of her life.
“There was a sofa, and then she lay down on it. She couldn’t get off the sofa,” he recalled. “Finally, the last year of her life, she was every night she was in panic mode.”
Naomi’s eldest daughter, Wynonna Juddalso mentioned the couch, admitting that he doesn’t always know how much his mother is suffering.
“One thing I didn’t know was how hard she struggled on the couch,” recalls singer 60. “That stupid couch, that’s where she spent a lot of time and I didn’t know that. I’m caught up in my success and trying to keep doing it.”
Naomi’s brother Mark Judd He repeated the sentiment in the docusary, saying, “I think something is missing from her childhood and I don’t think she’s got a lot of support from her parents.” He added that the performance became an outlet for her as she helped her “enhancing her self-esteem.”
