The NFL offseason is on track as teams have already begun activities. Nevertheless, Aaron Rodgers has yet to make any decisions about his future. The Pittsburgh Steelers remain patients and we are confident that the key decision makers will eventually land Rogers. But it would be interesting to hear what the Pittsburgh players think. Are some of them unhappy with the fact that they have been waiting so long for Rogers to join the team? I don’t think that’s the case for former NFL corner Jason McCarty.
“For someone like Cam Hayward, TJ Watt, some of the older players in that locker room would want to respond,” McCarty said. Recently at a Jim Roma show. “But at the same time, we always say as players, we control what you have control. For them, you look at their roster and you can really use guys like Aaron Rodgers.
“I hate the fact that you’re playing the game you’re waiting for, he’s not giving you an answer. He’s not even saying if you want to make that decision next year, whether he wants to continue playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season, if you’re going to sit with your arms wide open and welcome him, he’s not even saying.”
McCourty is not wrong. The Steelers have a talented roster. And they did a lot of this offseason to fix some of the issues that bothered them last year. This includes adding more dynamic weapons in your attack. But they are still short on under the centre.
Currently, Mason Rudolph is painted pencils as a starter. He’s not the worst option, but he hasn’t shown he can be a consistently high quality starter. Even though he wasn’t the same player once, Rogers would be an immediate upgrade against Rudolph. Near the end of the 2024 season, he looked like himself.
Some Steelers veterans may find Rogers irritated by drawing out this process. But it doesn’t seem to be that he’s doing it for no reason. Rogers said he is dealing with personal issues that require his attention. So, even if he wants to play, he can’t now fully commit to football.
Hayward expressed how excited he would be if Rogers joined the Steelers. He also preaches patience, so it appears he is not angry with Rogers. At 36, the competing steeler windows are not closed faster than Hayward’s windows. If he’s willing to wait for Rogers, that’s something to say.
If his father’s time doesn’t catch Rodgers completely, he could be the Steelers’ best quarterback in a few years. For most of the past few years, they won not for them, but despite their quarterback. That could change with Rogers. Good things come to those who are waiting. Maybe that will be true for the Steelers and Rogers this year.
