In a crackdown on unauthorized automated bookings, Indian Railways said on Wednesday that the AI-powered system had invalidated a suspicious user ID of 2.5 crore to book tickets.
Additionally, groundbreaking achievements were recorded on May 22, with the best booking of 31,814 tickets, showing the robustness and scalability of the upgraded platform.
In a statement, the Ministry of Railways said that new user protocols have been introduced to further enhance fairness and efficiency.
“Users who are not authenticated via Aadhaar can only book Opening ARP, Tatkal or Premium Tatkal tickets after 3 days of registration, while Aadhaar-Verified users can book tickets without delay.”
These efforts have resulted in measurable improvements. Average daily user logins increased from 69.08 lakh in 2023-24 to 82.57 lakh in 2024-25, a 19.53% increase, while average daily ticket bookings increased by 11.85% over the same period.
Additionally, e-tickets account for 86.38% of booked ticket bookings.
Indian Railways is implementing a comprehensive digital overhaul of ticket infrastructure.
With the deployment of cutting-edge anti-bot systems and integration with leading content delivery networks (CDN) service providers, the railroad has significantly reduced unauthorized automatic bookings by non-crude agents and improved access to authentic users of the website.
The new system effectively mitigates all bot traffic peaking in the first five minutes of Tatkal. Bot traffic accounts for up to 50% of overall login attempts during this period.
New AI enhancements ensure better accessibility for real users.
“The systematic upgrade includes 87% of the static content provided via CDN to reduce server load through CDN. Proactive detection and mitigation of bot traffic using sophisticated AI algorithms and aggressive deactivation of suspicious user IDs and accommodation for complaints via the Cybercrime Portal.
