The central government on Saturday announced the winners of the 2025 Padma Awards. The Padma Award is one of India’s highest civilian honors and is announced every year on the eve of Republic Day.
The Padma Vibhushan Award was awarded to Mr. Devvur Nageshwar Reddy, Justice Jagdish Singh Kehar (retired), Mr. Kumudini Rajinikanth Lakhia, Mr. Lakshminarayana Subramaniam, MT Vasudevan Nair (posthumous), and Mr. Osamu Suzuki. (Posthumous) and Sharda Sinha (Posthumous).
Meanwhile, Arijit Singh and R. Ashwin are among this year’s Padma Shri awardees.
Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for extraordinary and outstanding achievements), Padma Bhushan (for outstanding achievements of a higher order), and Padma Shri (for outstanding achievements).
This year, the government awarded 7 Padma Vibhushan awards, 19 Padma Bhushan awards and 113 Padma Shri awards.
The award is given in a variety of fields and areas of activity, including the arts, social work, public relations, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.
The Padma Award is awarded on the recommendation of the Padma Award Committee, constituted by the Prime Minister every year.
The President confers these awards at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, usually in March or April every year.
