Washington commander, Director Dan Quinn, may have put together the opening speech in just four words. But, as he told his 100th graduation class at his alma mater, Salisbury University, it becomes a far too short speech on Thursday.
So Quinn made a few comments.
To conclude that, he delivered a knockout punch using the four words mentioned above.
“Let me do that—rip!” Quinn said before walking from the podium to applause.
Quinn, who received his Honorary Doctoral Degree along with his wife Stacey – the alumni pleaded to be aggressive and begged to seize the opportunity. Quinn has worked with mental skills coaches for a long time. This has helped to guide negative thoughts to positive solutions over the years.
He told his students to turn every nerve into positive energy.
“Accept it all,” Quinn told the crowd. “I want to be really clear about this. The whole world is open to you. My wishes and my hopes for all of you are not to change the world. You change the world.”
Sometimes Quinn’s speech was similar to what he told his players. He wanted students to have “a wealth of success,” but he said he wanted them to have a “truly struggling battle” because it’s where growth is, where you learn and teach, and where your superpowers fully reveal themselves.
Quinn spoke about how he applied for a Division I football job for 115 after graduating from Thurlesbury and played on the defensive line. He was not interviewed.
“It may have changed my course, but I didn’t let it change my beliefs,” Quinn said.
